Biotin-aniline labelling with APEX2 can capture all 13 mitochondrial messenger RNAs while leaving all cyrtoplasmic RNAs untouched. APEX2-mediated Btn-An labeling of RNA is thus a promising method for mapping the subcellular transcriptome, which could shed light on their functions in cell physiology. Hence it provides an alternative methodology to the common Biotin-phenol labelling.
