The quality of amino acid building blocks has a significant impact on the final peptide purity and yield. Iris Biotech provides all 20 standard amino acids with Boc amino protection in high quality from small scale to bulk quantities. The tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc) protective group is unreactive to most bases and nucleophiles and can be removed under strong acidic conditions such as trifluoroacetic acid in dichloromethane or HCl in methanol. To circumvent alkylation of nucleophiles by the cleaved tert-butyl cation intermediate, scavengers such as anisole or thioanisole may be used.
