This building-block permits incorporation of a photocaged selenocysteine residue in a protein. The caging group is removed by UV light leaving the selenocysteine in place.
The compound is patented by the University of Vilnius, Lithuania (European patent No. EP3019194) for commercial use. There is freedom to use for research purposes. For commercial application a license has to be acquired from the patent holder.
