From a mechanistic point of view, these are inverse electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA) reactions between a tetrazine and a strained alkene, e.g. a norbornene, followed by a retro-Diels-Alder reaction under elimination of dinitrogen, the latter rendering the reaction irreversible.
