The ever-growing sophistication and variation in linker technologies and design have given rise to a new and distinct field of knowledge in synthetic chemistry termed Linkerology®. The function of such linkers is to join – at least – two chemical moieties.
Therefore, linkers must exhibit chemical stability towards many conditions, while some additionally require a chemical predetermined breaking point which allows for cleavage of the linker and liberation of the previously joined moieties.
